Indus Civilization Living
They made a living by farming and trading. Farmers grew a wide variety of crops such as wheat, barley, melons and dates.
They also may have been the first people to cultivate cotton and weave its fibers into cloth.
Some people were merchants and traders. Their ships carried cotton cloth, grain, copper, pearls and ivory combs to distant lands. Scholars believe that by sailing into the Sumer civilization the Indus Valley may have created their own writing system.
Religious Belief
The people of the Indus civilization were polytheistic, believing in many Gods. A mother Goddess was highly honored. The people seemed to have believed in sacred animals like the buffalo and the bull.
Indus civilization declines:
By 1900 BC the quality of life had declined. Poorly me pottery was replaced for finer works. The use of writing came to a stop. Mohenjo-Daro was abandoned. No one knows the exact cause but they have some beliefs. One is that the environment was a factor. Too many trees were cut down. Another was a giant flood came. Tons of river mud was found in the streets of Mohenjo-Daro. Or a major earthquake that is shown by other evidence. Those were some f the possibilities that may have brought the Indus civilization to an end.
