Summer

This may seem hard to believe, but in summer, the Earth is farthest away from the sun. This is called Aphelion. The reason we have summer is because we get more direct sunlight. Direct sunlight is when solar energy hits the Earth at a 90° angle. That is what causes summer. It makes the days longer and makes the temperatures get warmer.

This is the position of the sun during the seasons.
