Three Types of Rocks

Igneous Rock

Two Types:
~Intrusive
~Extrusive

They can be classified through texture and composition.

Sedimentary Rock

Metamorphic Rock

Formed by layers of grains from igneous rock building up.

Can be made of different sediments or matter mixed together.

Classified based on origin:
~Clastic
~Organic rock
~Chemical rock

Can be formed from either igneous rock or metamorphic rock. The rock is exposed to high pressure and heat for thousands of years.

Metamorphic rocks have new chemical makeup than the previous rock.

Classified by internal arrangements of grains and crystal:
~Foliated
~Unfoliated
