Japanese and Korean both form distinctive languages, and are so different and isolated because Japan is an island, and Korea is a peninsular state.
Japanese use two systems of phonetic symbols either in place of ideograms or alongside.
Korean classified as separate language family although it may be related to Altaic languages of Central Asia, or to Japanese. Korean written with Hankul- each letter represents a sound. More than 1/2 Korean words come from Chinese words.
Austro-Asiatic based in Southeast Asia, only spoken by 2% worlds population.
Vietnamese alphabet devised in 17th century by Roman Catholic Missionaries.
