Nigeria: Conflict Among Speakers
More than 200 distinctive languages spoken.
In the north Hausa is spoken by 1/4 of the population. In the southeast, Igbo is the most common, then Efik & Ijaw. In the southwest, Yoruba is the most important, then Edo. None of the languages have widespread use. English is spoken by 2% of Nigerians.
Groups in different regions have often battled, which reflects arising problems from cultural diversity in small, packed regions.
