The Somali government has tried to stop this issue, but they do not have the resources or strategy. Also, there has not been much attention brought to this issue until it became serious.

The International Maritime Organization is working with the United Nations to pass a law that will allow ports to keep a ship out of range if they do not have valid insurance. This will prevent the issue because the pirate ships will be denied access to the insurance, clearing the shores of hijackings.
