The Han River

汉江 Han Jiang


The Han River, also known as HanShui (汉水) or HanJiang (汉江) because of the Chinese pronunciation, is a very important waterway and is a tributary of the Yangtze River. It is located in the regions of Hubei,Shaanxi, and the Qin mountains. It is 1532 km long and has an area of 174 300 square kilometres. Its source is located in Hanzhong and it connects to the Yangtze River. It passes through many provinces including Hanzhong, Ankang, Shiyan, Xiangyang, and Wuhan. It also has a network of canals and is used for transport.The riverbed in the Shenqiong Mountains is more elevated and the rest of the river and the course changes often.
