He was the second ruler of the Khilji dynasty in Northern India, reigning from 1296 to 1316.He was of Turkic ethnicity but was born and raised in present-day Afghanistan.He is considered the most powerful ruler of the dynasty. He defeated the Mongols many times, even though they reached Delhi twice. He conquered most of India. He stopped nobles from marrying without his permission, in case anyone family grew too strong.Alauddin died in January 1316, of oedema. It is believed that his lieutenant Malik Naib hastened his death.
