-Officials collected taxes, managed state run factories and shipyards, and over saw construction
-Had a secret police
~caught any crime in his empire

-Chandragupta's grandson
-Rejected Chandragupta's methods
-Turned to Buddhism
-Sent missionaries to spread Buddhist beliefs
-After his death the empire declined
