Decomposition is the process to make organic substances broken down into simpler forms of matter. Decomposition is vital for the nitrogen cycle to work since in the cycle animal residues have nitrogen in them and they get decomposed that leaves mainly elements, like nitrogen, in the soil.

Nitrogen is super important for plant cells and animal cells. Plant cells use nitrogen for chlorophyl and photosynthesis. Animals use nitrogen for amino acids, proteins, RNA, and DNA.
