"I am the bread of life" (Jn 6:35)
Meaning:
YHWH was the one who gave manna (bread from heaven) to the chosen people.
"I am the Light of the World" (Jn 8:12)
Meaning: God creates light in Genesis.
"I am the gate for the sheep" (Jn 10:7)
"I am the good shepherd" (Jn 10:11)
Meaning: Both recall God's promise to shepherd his people
"I am the resurrection and the life" (Jn 11:25)
Meaning: God is the giver of life, and will restore life to the people
"I am the way, the truth and the life" (Jn 14:6)
Meaning: YHWH was said to be the key to life and truth.
"I am the true vine" (Jn 15:1)
Meaning: Prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel use the vineyard owner as symbolism for God, who planted the vine (Israel)
-This gospel is noted for "I am" sayings.
-The meanings of the statements became clear to the apostles after the resurrection.
-The miracles Jesus performed were things only God could do.
-Everything Jesus said and did revealed who God is and what He does.
