India's testing of a nuclear "device" gave Pakistan's nuclear program more momentum. Pakistan wanted to out best India in having nuclear warfare and also join world leaders like the United States, Russia and Great Britain and others in the nuclear arms race.
In the late '70s, Pakistan's nuclear program acquired sensitive uranium enrichment technology and expertise. The 1975 arrival of Dr. Abdul Quadeer Khan advanced Pakistan's nuclear weapon acquirement efforts.
