Prognosis of Phlebitis

-Superficial phlebitis is rarely serious and usually responds to pain control, elevation, and warm compresses
-Deep vein thrombophlebitis is not potentially life-threatening if not treated.
-DVT can damage the internal vein leading to complication of a past-phlebitic leg with chronic leg swelling and pain.
-It is important to find out why the DVT occurred and to minimize the risk factors for future occurrence
-Thrombophlebitis and other forms of phlebitis usually respond to prompt medical treatments.
