Transportation

People had horses, wagons pulled by horses, mules, or oxen. Debris blocked the way for steam boats. In the 1850s railroad construction began. About the 1860s 400 miles of railroads were in service. The trains mainly transported products to ports and markets. They hardly ever transported people.
