Rural Life in Texas
Texas lived on farms and ranches in 1846 and 1860. Texas raised cattle on their land rather than working for others. Corn was the largest food crop in these times. Wheat, oats, and sweet potatoes were also popular. Cotton was considered the "cash crop" in Texas back then.
