The Growth of Towns
Less than 13,000 people lived in Texas towns in 1850. Galveston was the biggest town in Texas at this time. By 1860 San Antonio was the biggest. Each community had few homes, general stores, blacksmith shops, offices for layers, doctors, and trade shops. Almost all buildings were made of logs or limber.
