At the top of feudal society was the King or Queen. They were the rulers of vast areas of land. Most rulers in the age of feudalism claimed they had been chosen by god to rule.

Kings wrote the laws that were enforced by the lords and knights in their service. In great conflicts, a king could summon all of his lords and their men to fight at his disposal.
