Survivors
Quotes
Life after their ordeal was still complicated. Many survivors feared to return home because of the antisemitism (hatred of Jews) that had still existed. In fact, pograms, or violent anti-Jewish riots were being held. The largest occurred in Kielce in 1946 when the Polish killed at least 42 Jews and beat many others - although, they, too were targets of the Germans.
When the war ended on 8th May 1945, it is estimated that there were 200.000 Jewish survivors of the forced labour camps, concentration camps, death camps, and death marches. Thousand of other survivors, who had been with the partisan groups, or in hiding, were also freed.
