The Mayans practiced polytheism or the worship of many gods

The most important god to them though was called the creator

This god was said to be many gods in one from the sun god to the maize queen

The gods to the Mayans could be helpful or harmful, so it was especially important to please them

To prove this to the gods they often committed human sacrifice with prisoners of war
