Treatment options

When dealing with pituitary tumors surgery can cure most cases, such as gamma knife radio surgery. If the surgery can't completely remove the tumor, medicines are used to block the release of the growth hormone.

SURGERY:
The surgery includes making an incision in the nose, where the surgeon inserts a camera to see the tumor in the pituitary gland.

MEDICATION:
Medications are used when surgery is not an option. The medications are meant to shrink the tumor and or stop the production of the excessive growth hormone. To prevent the growth hormones excessive release your doctor may use drugs such as octreotide or lanreotide.
