Literature

The majority of Fitzgerald's works are short stories or editorials, published in magazines. He only publish four novels himself, the first, "This Side of Paradise", being the one and only success. His subsequent novels were monetary failures. To survive as a young writer in high society, Fitzgerald wrote many short stories, such as 'Tales of the Jazz Age' and 'Flappers and Philosophers' (Tate 7).
Fitzgerald became increasingly unhappy with his declining success and unappreciated literature, and took a risk in becoming a screenplay writer in Hollywood. He proved inapt at writing scripts (Krystal 38). His last novel, published posthumously and unfinished, was "The Last Tycoon". Fitzgerald wrote this in secret while working as a scenarist.
