Major Battles: Bull Run

The Battle of Bull Run, Virginia was the first major battle of the Civil War. It was a heavy Union defeat. The Union Army, led by Brigade General Irvin McDowell came from Washington to attack the Confederates, often called "Rebels". When the Confederate reinforcements came they broke the Union Army and drove the Union back to Washington, where they were safe.
