Old Kingdom 2686–2181 BC
During the Old Kingdom the Egyptians started to build pyramids. This is the one and only kingdom that built pyramids. Djoser was the first pharaoh of the old kingdom. He built the first step pyramid. Rulers of previous city-states were forced to become tax collectors or governors. He told the people that the pharaohs were gods. The old kingdom ended when the governors of the Egyptian empire treated Egyptian land as their own. This coursed the government to collapse.
