Endymion

The Shepherd Prince

- a beautiful youth often known as the "shepherd prince"

- his parentage is often debated, but several stories state that he was the prince/king of Elis, who now serves as a shepherd

- spent much of his life in perpetual sleep

- some stories say this is because he wanted to be beautiful forever as a wish granted form Zeus, some say that it was because he tried to seduce Hera and Zeus cursed him

- in the story of Selene and Endymion, Endymion is placed into perpetual sleep for Selene's sake
