Role of women

Pre-revolution

Post-revolution

- women were demanding equality

- in 1962, voting rights were granted to women by the shah

- the Pahlavi era discouraged veiling & encouraged mixed participation in public gatherings

- They had the right to file for divorce

- lacked women's rights

- Status of women changed drastically

- they wear required to wear a veil because showing skin was considered too "sexy"

- women become subjects to men

- women were segregated from men

- women can only get a divorce if she could prove that her husband is either I'm potent , a drug user , been absent for more that 6months ,& unable to provide financially

- women could be violently beaten or tortured if the are caught wearing cosmetics

- the only hope women have to assure security & mobility wasa good marriage
