Achievements of the Gupta Empire

During the Gupta empire there were many mathematical advances. They created the decimal system, the number zero andArabic numerals. Surgeons began using herbs and remedies to treat the sick and were skilled in simple surgeries. They also believe they began treating smallpox 1000 years before it began in Europe. Many folk tales and stories were recorded during this time in Sanskrit. Later on, they were carried to Greece! Persia and Egypt.

Gupta Empire

The reign of the Gupta empire brought along a period known as the Indian Golden Age about 500 years after the Mauryas empire. This empire united much of India. Gupta emperors organized India with a strong, central government that ruled with peace and prosperity. The Guptas ruled from AD 320 to AD 540 and India enjoyed a period of great cultural achievement. Gupta rule was not as harsh as Maurya, and much power was given to individuals.villages with elected city governments. Trade and farming was very common and they produced a lot of wheat, rice and sugar canes. Artisans produced cloth, cotton, pottery and metalware for trade. Students were educated in religious schools. Schools taught math, science, philosophy, medicine, literature and more. Eventually, the Gupta Empire declined when the White Huns invaded and took over. It was not until 1000 years later until they had a strong empire.
