Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro

The "Priest-Man" is one of the few artifacts left from Mohenjo-Daro. Although the is no proof monarchis or holy men ruled the city, it was found in a highly decorated building.

-Mohenjo-Daro, the given name of the city since no records of the original name can be found, means "Mound of the Dead"
-major urban center of the Indus civilization
-the most advanced city of its time for its architecture and planning
-grid layout
-estimated population of 40,000
-buildings made of mud-brick and wood
-had central marketplace, individual houses, a Great Bath, and residences for holy men
-city not well fortified
-destroyed and rebuilt seven times

-Harappa was similar to Mohenjo-Daro in that they were major centers of the Indus civilization
-social and economic system
-designed for the same purpose but arranged differently
-used the same seals and scale sets.
