Happy Days by George Hart, 1925.
Hart uses shading and facial expression to show the emotion of happinesss.

20th C. Self-Portrait (theme: human emotion)

This etching portrays the featured man laughing with individual, straight lines. The lighter and darker shading creates different objects.

Describe:

Analyze:

Emphasis: The emphasis in this etching is on the man, particularly his face and expression.
Movement: This lighter and darker shades, the vertical shape of the glass, and the diagonal of his shoulders the lead the eye to the man, who is in the middle of laughing and raising his drink.
Contrast: White areas and darker edges
Unity: Monochromatic color and repetition of linear stokes that make up the texture of the etching.

Interpret:

I think this work means focusing on the happy days in life rather than the sorrowful ones. The fact that this man chose to capture a happy time rather than a sad one supports this. This reminds me of a poet having a good time with his poet friends.
