The Middle Passage
-The Middle Passage was the middle part of the journey taken by slave traders in the 17th and 18th centuries
-carried goods to Africa in exchange for slaves --> traveled to the Americas, where they exchanged the slaves for other goods --> departed again for Europe
-Africans were even shackled and packed into tiny
areas where they were vulnerable to disease
-Some slaves were tortured
-Mortality rates were high- 10% and 20% of Africans transported through the Middle Passage died
