The Railroad connected the east and the west so they can communicate during 1848 through 1884. They picked the railroad that started in Sacramento, CA and ended in Omaha. Asa Whitney was just a merchant who was the first promoter. Asa kept trying and trying to get the congress to pass the act to build a railroad but failed. Then Theodore Judah was an engineer who began to lobby for a railroad. He survived the sierra Nevada's. people who built the union pacific railroad where mostly Irish laborers who either served the union or the confederate armies. On the other hand the central pacific railroad was built by Chinese immigrants who where willing to work really hard to build the railroads. But in Utah most of the railroad was built by mormon workers.
