March 4, 1809 - March 4, 1817

Characteristic: Aggressive

There was a lot of fighting during his presidency, like the War of 1812 and the Battle of Tippecanoe.

James Madison

Attack of Our Ships - The British were seizing goods and impressing, the action of taking into the navy (their navy) by force with or without warning, American sailors, as the British said that anyone who was born British was still British. Around 90,000 American seamen were impressed by the British. This was probably the biggest cause of the War of 1812.

War of 1812 - Madison asked Congress to declare war, but that was not really necessary as support was basically unanimous. The war was going bad at first for the US as General William Hull surrendered the entire city of Detroit, but America did well on the seas and was able to take back Detroit. Before the war ended, though, the British burned down the White House. The war ended in 1814 with the Treaty of Ghent.

Battle of Tippecanoe - Warhawks were fearing that the British were hiring Natives to fight against the Americans, and their fear worsened when Shawnee chief Tecumseh and his brother "The Prophet" tried to unite tribes in Indiana and Ohio under an anti-white government. William Henry Harrison, current governor of Indiana, heavily defeated the Shawnees in the Battle of Tippecanoe because of it.
