Structural capability
By definition, cladding is generally non load bearing (i.e. it doesn’t carry roof or floor loads). However some sheet cladding systems can have structural bracing role in lightweight framing applications when appropriately fixed to the frame (e.g. structural plywood, reconstituted timber, fibre reinforced cement sheeting). The fixed requirements for bracing cladding can have significant implications for visual appearance, waterproofing, condensation, ventilation and drainage.
