WHO IS THE COURSE SUITED FOR?
The two year BTEC course is ideal for students who have just completed their school education and are looking to become performance industry professionals in all areas of Musical Theatre, with the potential to develop their training further on our three year Performing Arts course.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE OFFERED?
The BTEC qualification sits at level 3 on the national framework and is the equivalent to 3 A-Levels. Therefore the grades you receive from us will equate to between 120 - 240 UCAS points (depending on your overall grade) which can be used to progress onto higher education.
Vocational qualifications are also offered in Dance at 'major' level (Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2) through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Drama qualifications are offered through the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (Grades 6, 7 and 8). Completion of the Grade 8 LAMDA drama qualification provides students with a license to teach LAMDA.
WHO IS THE COURSE VALIDATED BY?
The BTEC course is validated by City and Guilds and we are also currently going through accreditation with the CDET.
WHAT IS A BTEC?
A BTEC is a work-related qualification suitable for a wide range of students. BTEC's provide a more practical, real- world approach to learning and are studied by more than a million students around the world.
WHEN DOES THE COURSE RUN?
The course runs full time 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) during term time . The BTEC offers 15 hours of guided learning per week. Those who opt for the BTEC upgrade option (for an additional fee) will finish at a later time in the evening, with an addition 20 hours of further training provided in addition to the 18 set BTEC hours. Students may also be required to attend additional rehearsals and exam sessions out of term time. The total length of the course is 2 years.
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
Entrance to this course is by audition only and our team of specialist course tutors interview and audition every applicant for this course. As well as a good general standard of education, we are looking for a degree of potential that can be developed, as well as a real interest in and commitment to the art of performance.
Academically you will need 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above including English & Math or a Level 2 Diploma (in a related subject).
Students must be aged 16 - 18 at the time of the course commencing.
Although not a necessity, previous experience in dance training is advised and therefore we recommend students to be at Grade 5, 6 or Intermediate standard in Classical Ballet, Tap and Modern.
