WHEN DOES THE COURSE RUN?
The course runs full-time 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) during term time from 9.00 am - evening (finish time differs, depending on timetable).
Students may also be required to attend additional rehearsals and exam sessions outside of term time. The total length of the course is 3 years.
WHAT ARE THE COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
Entrance to this course is by audition only and our team of specialist course tutors interview and audition every applicant for this course. As well as a good general standard of education, we are looking for a degree of potential that can be developed, as well as a real interest in and commitment to the art of performance.
Students must be aged 16+ at the time of the course commencing. There is no upper age limit and we accept applications from mature students. Students wishing to undertake the ISTD DDI and DDE teacher training qualifications must be 17 years old in the academic year of registration for the DDI and students must be 18 years old and hold the DDI qualification in order to complete the DDE. Students must be 19+ years of age to undertake the DTLLS qualification.
Although not a necessity, previous experience in dance training is advised. Students wishing to undertake the ISTD DDI and DDE teacher training qualifications must complete their Intermediate level exam in the subject of study as part of their teacher training course and therefore we recommend students to be at Grade 5, 6 or Intermediate standard in Classical Ballet, Tap and Modern. Students who are accepted onto the course who have not achieved their Intermediate level qualifications will be placed in the relevant Intermediate level classes in order to gain this qualification. For those who have completed their Intermediate exam with an alternative leading exam board (i.e. RAD), the qualification may be accepted by the ISTD also.
For the DTLLS teacher training qualification students must preferably have completed qualifications at level 3 (A-Level's or a BTEC). Students who have not completed level 3 qualifications are able to use an Intermediate level vocational qualification which can be completed at the college. Students should also have knowledge in the core skills of English, Maths and ICT, preferable with GCSE passes at C grade or above.
