Madrid City Walls

Fuente de Cibeles

Here are the remains of the old Arab walls that surrounded the settlement of Magerit. First there are Islamic remains from the 9th and 10th centuries, also there is Christian and dates from the 12th and 13th centuries.

This statue was originally placed to one side of the square and is the work of Ventura Rodríguez, 1781. It has been changed several times since the original work and represents the Goddess of fertility, earth, and harvests on a lion-pulled chariot.
