7.11 B,C Adaptations of Species

- Structures of living organisms show adaptations that allow for certain functions. Over time, traits that help the survival of a species are selected over those that do not.

- Populations and species show variations and inherite traits which have slowly changed over time as they were passed from one generation to the other. Changes in external features, behaviors, and physiology of organisms, through natural selection breeding can advance the survival of a species desired genetic traits.

- Populations have developed physical & behavioral adaptations that advance their way of life. For example, some migrate, some hibernate and some may even store fat and energy in order to survive during the cold climates in the winter time.

- Adaptations of structures to function are demonstrated in external features like, for example, the shell of a turtle, and in internal structures such as the gills of a shark, the presence of hollow bones in birds, and xylem in plants.
