Lecture 1, Answer 3
Each formula unit of NaCl contains exactly one sodium atom and one chlorine atom, so both samples have a 1:1 ratio of Na to Cl. The average atomic mass of Na would be the same in both samples, as the ratio of the different isotopes of Na would be the same. The average atomic mass of Cl would be the same in both samples, as the ratio of the different isotopes of Cl would be the same. Because all of the above mentioned ratios are the same, the mass ratio between Na and Cl will also be the same in both samples.
