Balancing the Ticket: The process of selecting a running mate for a Presidential Candidate who has contracting characteristics such as gender, geography, race or ethnicity.

Pros:

-brings diversity to the ballot

-provides different perspectives

-helps attract more votes

-the running mate makes up for the weaknesses of the Presidential candidate

Cons:

-chosen for votes rather than for their capabilities

-does not allow the people to directly chose a VP
