The contrasting themes and traditions in Classical and Baroque Sculpture
Economy
Northern Economy
Northern landscape and climate favored farmsteads instead of large plantations. The industry in the region flourished, fueled by more natural resources than in the south. Many large cities were established. One of them was New York with over 800,000 living in the city.
By 1860, one quarter of all Northerners lived in urban areas. The agricultural pursuit drastically decreased. Slavery practically died out being replaced with European immigrants working in the factories.
