What happened?
Thailand, 26th of December 2004
In Thailand, on the 26th of December 2004, a tsunami hit the coast of Phuket. The tsunami was caused by a violent movement of the earth's tectonic's plate in the Indian Ocean. This displaced an enormous amount of water sending powerful shock waves in every direction. The tsunami was 30 meters (100 feet) high. 4,812 people were killed, 8,457 people were injured and 4,499 people are missing. It was not just one tsunami but six tsunami's which hit Phuket at different times.
