Central Nervous System: consists of the brain and the spinal chord. These act as the command centers for the nervous system. The brain and the spinal chord are protected in bony armor, the skull and the vertebral column.


Peripheral Nervous System: consists of the nerves that extend from the brain and the spinal chord, the cranial nerves and the spinal nerves. Cranial nerves carry impulses to and from the brain. The spinal nerves carry impulse to and from the spinal chord.
