The Romans had a vast empire where the Christian religion was at first persecution. The Christian spread throughout the empire because it appealed to the poor and middle class. Constantine gave credit to Christianity for him winning the battle of Milvian Bridge to gain control of the empire. Theodosius made Christianity the main religion of the Roman Empire in 380 ad because he was a strong Christian.
