The Importance of the Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was important because the North had a great victory and it ultimately ended the Civil War. The North had its great victory because the army's defense was really good. For example, on the second day of battling, July 2, general Meade set up three major defensive positions at Culp Hill, Cemetery Hill, and Cemetery Ridge. Although general Lee and his army inflicted many casualties to the North, they were able to hold their lines. Also on July 3rd, Genereal made a great mistake of attacking at Cemetery Ridge which cost him heavy casualties and his army was never able to recover from it.
