Rise to Power

-Kim had an agitative relationship with South Korea so North Korea was slowly becoming known as a highly controlled, oppressive country whose people were allowed no contact with the west.

-He used a propaganda-based social fabric in order to foster the concept of economic self-reliance and came to be known was “Great Leader”

-In 1972 He was elected president of the country and took on a domestic policy that focused on militarization and industrialization of North Korea

-There were also hints of more peaceful relations with South Korea in the form of Red Cross Talks.
