Kim Il-Sung adopted the Soviet style economic policy which was known as Socialism. Under this policy, the North Korean economy flourished but then declined sharply.
Wide spread famine occurred towards the end of Kim Il-Sung's rule. This famine carried over into his son and grandson's rule.
