June 29, 1862
• During the early morning Confederate Generals Longstreet and A. P. Hill were ordered to cross the Chickahominy River. Their troops found the enemy trenches abandoned and started to pursue the Union army.
• Confederate Brigadier General Magruder's troops attacked the Union rearguard at Savage's Station. Heavy fighting lasted for about two hours, when it was stopped by darkness.
• The result of this battle was not decisive and the Union troops continued to retreat towards the James River under cover of darkness.
