• Description: two women, vase, plant, flowers, purple dress, greenish
dress
• Analysis: The artist used line in the dresses to create movement and
drapery. He showed space by overlapping objects and used vivid
colors to help the viewer's eye move through the piece, keeping it
lively. This piece is symmetrical and balanced because it has an even
amount of positive and negative space on both sides.
• Interpretation: This is an abstract work that focuses more on colors and shapes to convey emotions than
details. The line used to create the flowing look on the dresses suggest a loose, calm emotion. They way
space is used helps show that the lady in the teal is risen above the woman in purple. This could translate to the
woman literally being ranked above the woman in purple, who might be her servant. The pose of the lady
wearing purple suggests that she is struggling and she looks like she's trying to break out of something, what
could possibly be the social status she has that puts her below the other woman. The negative space to the left
of the woman surrounded by flowers could propose the emptiness the lady underneath the space feels.
• Judgement: I think this a very good piece that is pleasing and easy to look at because of it's neat shapes and
bright colors. Even though it doesn't contain much specific detail, it is still a beautiful piece that did a very good
job conveying its deeper meaning and story.
