In 1819,Sarah's father fell ill and she accompanied him to

Philadelphia where he would receive medical treatment.It was there where she was influenced by the Quakers who were helping to take care of her father.After her father died she moved back to Charleston.She and Angelina moved to Philadelphia and converted to Quakerism short after that.Their family was ashamed because it made the sisters outcasts of the South.
