The veils used in the Middle East is stereotypically believed by some (mostly westerners) that Muslim women in veils are associated with terrorism. Innocent women even got abused and tormented because of this stereotype against muslims and their beliefs. After 9/11, women claimed that they were being called "Osama Bin Laden" and getting abused for looking like terrorists. The attacks led people to say to Muslims, "Either you are with us, or you are against us." Many people decided that all Muslims were against "us" and wanted any person they saw that had a headscarf on dead. Muslims started protests because they were offended by this stereotype. The picture shows Muslims during a protest. They are trying to show how upset they are because of how they are being insulted. Muslims in this protest wanted whoever insults Islam to be killed. The problem is similar to "Persepolis" because when Marjane's mom is insulted in the street, she gets very upset and went on a protest afterwards as well. Even though Marjane's mother was insulted for not wearing a veil, it had the same effect as these Muslims.
