Indus River Valley

Indus civilization arose around Egypt time in 2600 B.C. It was the earliest South Asia civilization to emerge. There were two main cities, Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were possible twin capitals. The civilization accomplished the following: building roads, temples in each city, houses of brick, plumbing (sewers), cotton, and a form of writing. The Indus River Valley traveled to Sumer to trade. There are many theories of why the civilization declined, some suggested that damage to the local environment was a factor.

Religious beliefs of the Indus people were thought to be polytheistic. Indus people seem to have considered certain animals as scared, such as the bull and the buffalo. Some critics thought that early practices influenced later Indian beliefs, especially the veneration,or special regard for, cattle.
